Improv Online is the perfect means to get your virtual teams in sync and creative. Improvisation, or simply acting without a script, is an ability everyone has but one that is not always used to its fullest potential. Improv can sharpen wits, hone verbal acuity and heighten nonverbal communication as well as instilling an implicit sense of trust between team members. So forget the script and throw away your notes as you only need a keen brain and confidence for Improv Online.
Your teams will join our professional Theatre trained facilitator who will host the session and guide you through each activity and challenge. After introductions and briefing your host will split the group into teams then start with warm up challenges to get them focused, thinking creatively and ready for improvising. In-between each segment your host will linking everything together with acting tips and improv advice.
Teams will then be tasked with Improv Challenges that will build in complexity, each culminating in your teams devising their very own improvised scenes, all of which are sure to cause a lot of laughter. Each Improv challenge will give teams the scenario or set up, characters that need to be portrayed and an objective. Scenes are performed for the whole group and your host will be scoring the best performance. (competition element is optional)
Improvisation has limitless possibilities and numerous benefits. People that engage in improvisation will naturally experience heightened focus, trust, proactive listening, making each other look good, being present, and living in the moment. Which are all essential, yet often overlooked or discarded, communication and listening skills that will consistently improve the quality of work, home, and social relationships.

Below are some example challenges used in Improv Online:
Dr Dr: Teams of 3 to 5 players are instructed to answer questions but the catch is that they must answer with each person speaking only one word at a time. Answers must be full and coherent sentences so players must listen carefully and provide words that are easy to add on to.
Team Story: Taking the same format from the previous challenge, teams must tell a simple story without stopping or hesitating but can only be spoken one word at a time. Teams only have 1 -2 mins to decide on the story being told.
2 Words – 3 Words: Players A and B are selected to play the challenge. A simple scenario or set up is given. i.e. at a bank asking for a loan. But the limiting factors are that A can only speak 2 words at a time and player B can speak 3 words at a time. Quick thinking essential.
This event is staged online using a combination of ‘Zoom Meetings’ and a selection of other software and websites, all of which are easily accessible or free to download. We can send an invitation via email containing all instructions and links prior to the event. We highly suggest installing the relevant programs and using a desktop or laptop for full experience. Tablet and smart phone access is possible but will contain less functionality.
After each game scoring is given to each team and the sub-total is announced until the last game. Final scoring is done during the event debrief and the team with the most points is the winner.
The event briefing takes place in the central video conference room. The briefing will include a short tutorial for how to use the Video Conferencing software and best practices for operating within a group video chat. i.e. muting microphones when not speaking, looking at camera when speaking etc. After the briefing, participants will be separated into teams and invited by the facilitator to separate chat rooms, then the lead facilitator gives further instructions and objectives for the activity. The de-brief takes place again in the central video conferencing room. Briefing and de-brief usually take around 15 minutes each but can be extended upon request for more in-depth analysis of team performance.
