Top chef is a highly interactive and fun team building event vaguely based on the US TV series “Top Chef”.
Instructed by Thailand’s top executive chefs, teams learn how to prepare, cook and serve Thailand’s most exquisite cuisine.
In this inspiring team building activity, teams compete against each other in various rounds, always observed, coached and judged by their Michelin-star instructor.
- Planning, communication and organization skills.
- Delegation, time management and leadership skills.
- Learning skills such as cooking, napkin folding & table set up to bring back home.
- Learn about Thai culture and cuisine.
- Funny, enjoyable and interactive afternoon.
- Getting to know your team colleagues.
Teams will be shown by a local chef how to cook up to five dishes and then through interpretation of the ingredients and preparation methods in the form of a recipe recreate the dishes to the best of their abilities. Each dish will be presented to the chef for judging and points will be awarded for each dish after each round. After all dishes have been made and scored, final scoring is announced and the best team receives prizes in an awarding ceremony.
The dishes are prepared in a team versus team format in which teams compete in preparing their dishes to get the best result between them. In the half day program, cooking instructions are provided for starters, main courses and dessert. Each dish requires full participation of everyone in the team.
In combination with the cooking challenge, the Top Chef team building activity may include optional elements such as flower decoration, napkin folding, fruit carving and formal dinner table set up.
Each challenge is carefully instructed and judged by professional hospitality staff.
Groups may select the menu they wish from the extensive list of menu items.
This team building activity normally takes place in a cooking school, a hotel kitchen or meeting room or restaurant. This can also mean being on a boat, a tropical island or the top of a sky scraper. Alternatively, clients may suggest their own location to conduct this event.
The winning team is decided by an award winning chef who will judge the food for authenticity, taste, presentation and quality.
Insurance and instructor supervision are important safety factors with any event, and in the event of an emergency, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
The event briefing and debrief takes place at the activity location. The group is separated into teams and introduced to their facilitators, then the lead facilitator gives an introduction of the event including (safety) instructions and objectives for the activity.
During the debrief, the facilitator discusses the event challenges and asks each team questions to assess their performance before announcing the winning team (if applicable).
Briefing and debrief usually take around 15 minutes each but can be extended for more in-depth analysis of team performance.
The half day program is up to 4 hours and includes 3-5 dishes and the full day up to 8 hours and includes up to 8 dishes. Trips to the market may be added and of course, spend as much time as you like after the competition enjoying your food together.
