“Thrill seeking explorers navigate from A to B in a race against the clock. Finding any means of transport they can to reach their destination, they will barter with locals on the way to succeed.
As they travel they will keep a video log of their adventure and immerse themselves in the local culture in a series of challenges.”
- To improve communication within the team
- To practice planning and organisation
- To consider leadership skills
- To focus on team synergy and individual roles
- To get to know each other and have a fun and enjoyable time
- To manage time and complete team challenges together.
Each team will be provided with a map and a series of rendezvous checkpoints. Moving from place to place by any means, teams will score points based on the creativity of their transport and their achievements in working with people along the way to complete cultural tasks as well as for getting back to base on time with an item with as much value as possible after bartering items over and over.
Challenges reflect the local flavour of the destination. Some may last for only a few minutes, others may be complex learning problems that keep teams working for up to an hour! In any case, they are always exciting and promise spectacular new experiences. Longer tasks include making a fruit or soap carving, playing Thai music, preparing exotic Thai food or locating, negotiating for and buying a hard to find item.
In addition to set tasks, teams will have to barter items over and over to get back to the finish with one item with as much value as possible.
As an optional extra By Any Means can be played with ‘Picture This’. Each team will take a picture when directed by a photo task challenge, at various locations during the race. Pictures are presented in a presentation during the debriefing.
Alternatively, teams are tasked to find locations based on (parts of) pictures given out by Making Teams.

As they explore, the teams will get the chance to visit some of the most important and interesting sites along the route. Places vary per route but usually include famous sites like temples, local cultural sites of interest and various adventure activity locations whilst interacting with the locals at the various towns, markets, and by the beach during their daily lives.
At various places during the race, teams will have to arrive at checkpoints. The last team at a checkpoint may be penalized with a ‘speed bump’ or extra challenge before they can continue with the race. The winning team is the first back at the final checkpoint with the most points.
Insurance and instructor supervision at all times is an important safety factor, and in the event of an emergency of team member withdrawal, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
Briefing for By Any Means takes about an hour due to the length of the event and safety instructions and is normally done in the hotel conference room. We explain the rules, the routes and the safety procedures, introduce the facilitators and hand out the teams travel funds, the maps and give the teams their first task envelope! In the debriefing we’ll review the challenges, the ways of transport, the answers to the questions that led to the locations, the one item to be returned and of course award the trophy for the winning team.
Starting with a four hour half day option, By Any Means can be customized to a full day, 8 hour program of discovery and intrigue inclusive of cultural and activity challenges and have lunch at a fantastic setting reflecting your location. For the real challenge seekers among us, choose to upgrade to our ultimate racing experience, a multiple days travel throughout the country and race to as many locations as possible over a set period of time!

Teams are tasked to find their own transportation and can score points based on the creativity of their choice. The challenge is to find as many different and creative ways of transportation. Examples are tuk-tuks, elephants, dolphins, long tail boats, helicopters, or anything else that can bring the team a step further to their destination.
