Build your own boat from limited materials and race each other in the pool or sea in this frantic activity.

Teams build their cardboard box boats from cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, foam, tape and other materials provided, for in the sea stronger materials such as wood and PVC is also provided to withstand the force of the waves. Making Teams facilitators instruct and guide the teams in building the boats following a given design or the team’s own. After the boat building, teams move to the water for the race.
The location for the event is usually at the client’s hotel pool or nearby beach at walking distance of the hotel.
After the boat building and before the race each boat will be judged and scored based on criteria such as strength, capacity and identity. Teams can earn further points through a series of races in which different team members will be ‘the Captain’. The team with the most points is the winner and will be awarded during the debrief.
Insurance and instructor supervision are important safety factors with any event, and in the event of an emergency, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
The event briefing and debrief takes place at the activity location. The group is separated into teams and introduced to their facilitators, then the lead facilitator gives an introduction of the event including (safety) instructions and objectives for the activity.
During the debrief, the facilitator discusses the event challenges and asks each team questions to assess their performance before announcing the winning team (if applicable).
Briefing and debrief usually take around 15 minutes each but can be extended for more in-depth analysis of team performance.
The half day program takes up to 4 hours and the full day program up to 8 hours.
