Unlock your inner melody and learn more about team harmony! In this creative activity, teams are tasked with creating a set of musical instruments from recyclable materials and (clean) refuse. Once they have completed their instruments they will attempt to recreate a typical Thai ceremonial melody in a short performance.
- To plan and organize a community event
- To consider ways to achieve corporate social responsibility
- To improve cooperation as a team
- To work on creativity, critical thinking and innovation
- To consider ways in CSR can be translated into a work environment
- To learn new skills with uses outside the workplace
- To explore a new culture
After briefing and team division, teams observe how traditional music is made from a video or a real live band and then receive recycle materials to build their own instruments and recreate the music to the best of their ability.
The challenge is conducted in a team versus team format in which teams compete in making and playing instruments, recreating the example performance from the video which requires full participation of everyone in the team.
Instructions for the activity are given by the lead event instructor during the briefing to the teams, the professional musicians provide further instructions on how to create the instruments and how to play the music.
Teams first go through some practice rounds and are supported and guided by expert musicians. As part of the show, teams may also make their own uniforms from recycle materials based on the traditional uniforms musicians normally wear. After practice teams perform on stage and receive a scoring from a panel of judges. The team with the most points wins.
The location for the event is usually at the client’s hotel or nearby meeting room.
The expert musicians will judge each team’s performance based on a variety of criteria and award points based on creation of musical instruments, costumes, teamwork and how well the overall performance is recreated. The winning team will be presented with a winner’s trophy.
Insurance and instructor supervision are important safety factors with any event, and in the event of an emergency, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
The event briefing takes place at the activity location or the client’s hotel meeting room or lobby. In the briefing the group is separated into teams and introduced to the facilitators, then the lead facilitator gives an introduction of the event including instructions and objectives for the activity.
In the de-brief the lead facilitator goes through the event challenges and asks each team questions to assess their own performance before announcing and awarding the winning team if applicable.
There’s also time for providing further donations to the beneficiary and a group photo with the people of the beneficiary.
Briefing and de-brief usually take around 15 minutes each but can be extended upon request for more in-depth analysis of team performance.
