Coconuts have long been a stable source of food across the whole of Southeast Asia for millennia. Yet coconuts have a long history of being useful in a variety of other ways. Learn how to turn this versatile fruit, nut and seed into a multitude of culturally historic products.
- To improve communication, delegation and work flow within the team
- To improve trust, planning and leadership skills
- To get to know one another in a fun and exciting setting
- To work on cooperation and understanding yourself, your colleagues and your team
- To consider ways in which these skills can be translated into a work environment
In this traditional activity, teams are challenged to create different products from raw coconuts including coconut milk making, coconut oil making, making desserts with coconut milk and grating, coconut shell painting and crafting monkey statues.
Coconut milk making: team members grate and milk from the dried coconuts and fill up a bottle with milk as fast as possible.
Coconut shell painting: team members to compete in replicating a coconut shell painting in the quickest time possible.
Coconut oil making: team members to grind as much coconut flakes as possible to produce the most amount of oil in the time given.
Coconut dessert making: team members are shown how to make some of the most famous coconut desserts to then recreate and enjoy together.
The location for the event is usually at the client’s hotel, park or beach at walking distance of the hotel.
Coconut culture is intended as a group experience rather than a competitive activity. However scoring can be added upon request based on speed of completion, amount and quality of the end products, use of materials and teamwork.
Insurance and instructor supervision are important safety factors with any event, and in the event of an emergency, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
The event briefing and debrief takes place at the activity location. The group is separated into teams and introduced to their facilitators, then the lead facilitator gives an introduction of the event including (safety) instructions and objectives for the activity.
During the debrief, the facilitator discusses the event challenges and asks each team questions to assess their performance before announcing the winning team (if applicable).
Briefing and debrief usually take around 15 minutes each but can be extended for more in-depth analysis of team performance.
The half day program takes up to 4 hours and the full day program up to 8 hours.
