Based on the concept of the well-known TV show, teams face off at various city locations and tourist sites to create and shoot the best possible camera shots by capturing a unique image. Teams use their own creativity, intuition and skills with the aim to produce the perfect photograph based on the brief which is then presented on-site to our expert judge, who will assess the photograph and award points based on the criteria set.
- To improve communication within the team
- To practice planning and organisation
- To consider leadership skills
- To focus on team synergy and individual roles
- To get to know each other and have a fun and enjoyable time
- To manage time and complete team challenges together.
In Photo Face Off, teams are brought to various culturally rich locations and receive a brief with instructions on the image they need to create based on certain objective like capture colors, emotions and people. They are given time to explore, study the location and to plan how best to incorporate the elements into their photo. They then need to take their photo incorporating the elements of the instruction, combined with their photography skills and present to the judges within a set time limit back at the finish location.
There’s three types of photo challenges available: regular photo challenges, floating challenges with a picture of the team anywhere and team intersection co-operation shots with taking a picture with another team.
Below are two example challenges in Bangkok, Thailand as provided to the teams during the activity.
1. The Bangkok flower market near the river is a bustling busy working market where sellers and buyers come together to purchase the flowers needed all over the city, for hotels, shops, temples, parks and private homes. Teams must take a picture emphasising the range of colours, textures and shapes to be found here, and capture the vibrancy and pace of this working market in an exciting and eventful way depicting the movement of people, the goods on sale and the exotic nature of the venue.
2. The Erawan shrine is a small but famous and iconic piece of Buddhist culture located on one of the busiest and most chaotic roads in the capital. From the sounds and sites of birds twittering in their cages to the colours and scents of the Buddhist offerings, this shrine mixes locals engaged in peaceful offerings with a multitude of things happening in a very small area. Teams must catch of the spirit of Buddhism, the hustle and bustle of a city shrine and the feeling of a small oasis in the centre of a bustling metropolis.
Picture This locations often change depending on the location and duration of the event. They always include major attractions and sights such as temples, waterfalls market and monuments as well also local sites of myth and legend which will provide a real insight into your chosen location.
Points are scored for locating the sites, completing the challenges, time-keeping, and photographic interpretation of the challenges along with the team’s visual presentation which all form part of the scoring criteria to decide the winning team.
Insurance and instructor supervision at all times is an important safety factor, and in the event of an emergency of team member withdrawal, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
Our expert judge will assess each picture at each location based on a variety of criteria and award points based on the following categories:
A. Quality; lighting, focus, depth of field, blur
B. Composition; framing, colour, movement
C. Artistic interpretation; brief notes, overall impression
The lead facilitator keeps a running total and at the end of the event calculates the final scores, before announcing and awarding the winning team. The winning team will be presented a prize.
The half day program is up to 4 hours and includes 3-4 photographic challenge locations and the full day up to 8 hours and includes up to 6 locations.
Transportation will vary depending on your package.
