The Survivor game is based on the TV show ‘Survivor’ with the themes, challenges and icons of the show. The group will be split up into teams of 10 members who strive together in competition with the other teams to becoming the winning team. Teams receive their own bandanas, flags, torches, T-shirts and instructions for the games through tree mail.
Survivor challenges are available of all sorts and vary widely between categories such as physical, mental, water-based, puzzles, relays and surviving.
Below are two example challenge instructions as provided to the teams during the activity:
Camp Building – Find a place, make a space, and create your base
“Using the limited resources provided, find a suitable location to make a space to create your team base, which will provide your team with an area to use to relax in throughout the day. The structure needs to be designed so that it will withstand the natural elements, beauty, capacity & comfort test!”
The Food Eating Challenge – Be ready for this old-time classic Survivor challenge!
“In this food eating challenge each member of your team must join in a round of eating a different kind of strange local ‘delicacy’. In each round one member of each team must compete against the others in eating the food that is presented. The first participant that completely consumes the food and shows an empty mouth receives one point for his/her team.”

Scoring is done during the event debrief and the team with the most points is the winner and will be crowned the ultimate survivors.
Insurance and instructor supervision at all times is an important safety factor, and in the event of an emergency of team member withdrawal, transport and medical backup will be standing by.
Pre-briefing with survival skills training and tips, and debriefing and analysis lead by instructors will form a part of the process, both to enhance the learning outcomes and experiences of the delegates, and to ensure that the team works together is empowered to overcome the challenges it faces.
The event briefing and debrief takes place at the activity location. The group is separated into teams and introduced to their facilitators, then the lead facilitator gives an introduction of the event including (safety) instructions and objectives for the activity.
During the debrief, the facilitator discusses the event challenges and asks each team questions to assess their performance before announcing the winning team (if applicable).
Briefing and debrief usually take around 15 minutes each but can be extended for more in-depth analysis of team performance.
